Quick Answer: We shifted £4.5m of Cisco Meraki kit and services last year, deployed our biggest ever Wi-Fi project (900 access points), rolled out SD-WAN across 400 sites, and supported 1,220 Meraki licence renewals. And we did it all with just 9 Cisco engineers. Here's the full breakdown.
Every networking company says they're busy. Every reseller says they're trusted. Every partner says they're experts.
Fine. But talk is cheap and numbers aren't. So we pulled our data for the last 12 months, made a coffee (several thousand, actually, more on that later) and put together the full picture of what a year at The Networking Nerds actually looks like.
No fluff. No vanity metrics. Just the real numbers behind a Cisco-only business.
💷 The Money Stuff
£4.5 million in turnover. Not bad for a team of self-confessed network nerds.
But here are the numbers we're actually most proud of. Look at where that revenue comes from:
|
Revenue Stream |
Share |
|
Hardware |
38% |
|
Professional Services |
22% |
|
Licences |
21% |
|
Managed Services |
19% |
Spot it? 41% of our revenue comes from services. That's more than hardware.
Why does that matter to you? Because it means we're not a box shifter. Anyone can sell you an access point. We design it, deploy it, support it and renew it. The kit is the easy bit. Engineering is where networks succeed or fail.
Biggest single order: £1.1 million. That's nearly a quarter of our annual turnover on one purchase order. When enterprise customers trust you with seven figure projects, you know you're doing something right.
📦 The Order Book
139 orders a month, on average. That's roughly 1,668 orders a year, or a new order landing about once every working hour.
Every single one processed the same day. Every single one shipped directly from Meraki's EMEA HQ. Free delivery across the UK and EU, because charging you £15 to post a licence key would be a bit rich.
🏢 Who We Work With
-
4,000 customers in total. From single site SMBs running one MX and a couple of APs, right up to global enterprises.
-
2 FTSE 100 companies. Yes, really.
-
17 FTSE 250 companies. The UK's biggest businesses trust nerds, apparently.
-
47 locations were served. Offices, warehouses, schools, hospitals, factories, power stations. If it needs a network, we've probably been there.
And because Meraki hardware stops passing traffic when a licence expires (a fact that still catches too many IT teams out), we now support 1,220 Meraki renewals. That works out at roughly 5 renewals every working day that we track, quote and process so nobody's network falls over at 9am on a Monday.
🚀 The Big Projects
Numbers from our largest deployments this year:
📶 Biggest Wi-Fi project: 900 access points. To put that in context, at a typical coverage of around 150m² per AP, that's roughly 135,000 square metres of wireless coverage. Or about 19 football pitches of seamless roaming.
🔀 Biggest switching project: 88 switches. That's a serious amount of PoE budget, uplink planning and cable management. All deployed, stacked and templated through the Meraki dashboard.
🌐 Biggest SD-WAN project: 400 sites. Four hundred. Auto VPN across the lot, zero touch provisioning doing the heavy lifting, and a rollout schedule that would make a logistics manager weep.
These aren't hypotheticals from a vendor datasheet. These are live networks we designed, deployed, and support today.
🤓 The Nerds Themselves
-
9 in house Cisco engineers. Some covering project, some covering support. Everyone a certified Cisco Nerd!
-
4 Ekahau certified wireless engineers for proper predictive surveys and AP on a Stick validation. We don't guess AP placement, we measure it.
-
CCIE, CCNP and CCNA certifications across the team, plus CWNE’s for our Wi-Fi nerds out there!
-
Top 1% Cisco Premier Partner globally. Out of tens of thousands of Cisco partners worldwide, we're in the top 1%. As a Cisco-only house.
☕ The Slightly Less Serious Numbers
Because no annual review is complete without the stats nobody asked for:
-
~6,500 cups of coffee consumed. Deployment days don't run on goodwill alone.
-
Over 90 Marathons walked this year on Ekahau surveys.
-
Thousands of cable ties deployed. And at least one engineer who refuses to use velcro on principle.
-
Zero networks left behind. Every project is handed over, documented, labelled and supported.
-
1 ongoing office argument about whether Wi-Fi 7 is worth it yet. (Read our take on that one in the blog archive.)
🎯 What the Numbers Actually Mean for You
Here's the honest summary. We're big enough to handle a 400 site SD-WAN rollout or a 900 AP wireless deployment, but small enough that when you ring +44 207 183 7055, you get an engineer who knows Meraki inside out, not a call centre script.
We only do Cisco Meraki. No distractions, no competing vendors, no jack of all trades nonsense. That focus is exactly why 4,000 customers, including sevreal FTSE listed companies, keep coming back.
Planning a Meraki project or got a renewal creeping up? Give us a call on +44 207 183 7055 or email hello@thenetworkingnerds.co.uk for a same day quote. We'll even throw in the pre-sales advice for free.
Next year, we're aiming to make all these numbers bigger. Except the coffee. The coffee is probably at its limit.
